Wrexham could add a sprinkle of Premier League glamour to their Hollywood project after taking the son of a former top-flight icon on trial.

The League One side sit third in the table after securing back-to-back promotions under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, with the pair shining the spotlight on north east Wales through their star appeal and the successful documentary series.

Manager Phil Parkinson's squad has largely been made up of lower league stars up until now as Wrexham rise up the divisions, but he could soon have a famous name to call upon if the club's latest trialist makes the grade.

The Mail Online report that Yassine Toure, the 18-year-old son of the former Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool defender Kolo, has been on trial with Wrexham as he seeks to earn his first professional deal.

Teenager Toure has also had spells on trial at Celtic and Leicester when Kolo worked there as a coach under his ex-Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, but he will now be hoping to nail down a place in the Wrexham setup and seek a spot in Parkinson's squad.

Kolo currently works as a coach at Manchester City, for whom he made 102 appearances across four seasons between 2009 and 2013, winning the Premier League in 2012 and playing alongside his brother Yaya, Yassine's uncle.

That spell sandwiched eight years at Arsenal, where he won the Premier League and two FA Cups, and three seasons at Liverpool where he was a runner-up in both the League Cup and Europa League in 2016.

After a brief spell at Celtic Toure moved into coaching, with his only spell in sole charge coming to an abrupt halt when he was sacked as manager of Wigan after just nine games in charge in January 2023.
