Manchester United have announced five new appointments with Ruben Amorim’s backroom team now in situ.

The Portuguese coach was confirmed as the Red Devils’ new manager earlier this month after the exit of Erik ten Hag. After overseeing Sporting Lisbon’s final few games before the international break, Amorim flew to Manchester for talks with club chiefs and players.

However, he was not able to start work with United due to his work visa still pending. But that has now come through for the 39-year-old, meaning that he can now officially start work.

And in the midst of Amorim getting the green light, his backroom team has officially been confirmed. Carlos Fernandes has been appointed as the club’s assistant head coach having been a close colleague of Amorim’s at Braga, Casa Pia and Sporting Lisbon.

Jorge Vital has joined the club as a first-team goalkeeper coach having worked with Amorim in Lisbon. Emanuel Ferro has been appointed as a first-team coach having also worked under the Portuguese at the José Alvalade Stadium.

Ex-Arsenal and Liverpool man Paulo Barreira has also arrived at Old Trafford after being confirmed as a physical performance coach. The final appointment sees Adelio Candido confirmed as a first-team coach but his work visa has still yet to be confirmed.

The five appointments see the Red Devils replace a host of outgoing staff members. Former coach and interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy has already departed after being told he would not be a member of Amorim’s backroom team.

Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel have all also left after arriving at the club under previous boss Erik ten Hag. Speaking in his first interview, Amorim has already revealed the working environment he hopes to instil at Old Trafford.

He said: “Well, you don't know my past as a football player, but I was a football player and I played in any position. So I played at right-back, left-back, centre-back, midfielders, winger, number 10, number eight. I didn't play goalkeeper and striker.”

“Yeah, I will try. So two positions. So I was a team player and for me that is important. And also because I was a team player, sometimes I had to stay on the bench.

“So I know everything my players feel. So when I think about a team, I think about every player, about the fans, the feeling, everything is on my mind.”

Amorim and his staff will oversee their first game at the helm next weekend. The Red Devils take on newly-promoted Ipswich at Portman Road next Sunday.
