Chelsea vs Brighton in the Premier League has been overlooked for live TV coverage in the UK but there are other ways to catch the action from Stamford Bridge

Chelsea vs Brighton is one of the standout games of the Premier League weekend – but you’ll have to be at Stamford Bridge in person to watch it in the UK.

The Blues and Seagulls have both made promising starts to the season and sit fifth and seventh respectively ahead of Saturday's 3pm kick-off. Following a chaotic couple of seasons, Chelsea are showing signs of getting their act together under latest boss Enzo Maresca, with three wins and just one defeat in the league so far.

Last weekend’s 3-0 drubbing of West Ham at the London Stadium raised hopes the Blues can challenge for the Champions League spots after a period of colossal underachievement. Brighton are also under new management, with young German boss Fabian Hurzeler overseeing an unbeaten start.

Why isn't Chelsea vs Brighton on TV in the UK?

Simple reason: It wasn’t selected by broadcasters Sky Sports and TNT Sports. In their Saturday 12.30pm slot, TNT picked Newcastle vs Manchester City while Sky will show Wolves vs Liverpool at 5.30pm. Sky’s Super Sunday offering will be Ipswich vs Aston Villa (2pm) and Manchester United vs Tottenham (4.30pm).

And it’s a 3pm kick-off, the match is behind English football’s longstanding Saturday blackout which runs from 2.45pm to 5.15pm. Any live broadcast of 3pm games in the UK is strictly prohibited.

In recent years, there has been a clamour for the historic rule to be ditched. But a Premier League spokesperson told Mirror Football last year the rule is in place to "protect attendances throughout the English football pyramid". The EFL would need to be consulted for the rule to be removed.

Where can I watch Chelsea vs Brighton?

Highlights and key moments from the game will be available to watch on the Sky Sports app almost straight after the final whistle. The best bits from the game will also be shown on Match of the Day, scheduled to kick-off at 10.30pm on Saturday.

While it won’t be shown live in the UK, overseas viewers can watch the game via local Premier League TV rights holders. In the United States, the match will be shown on Peacock at 10am (EST).
