Ruben Amorim left furious as Ed Sheeran CRASHES interview after first Man Utd match
Ruben Amorim took charge of Manchester United for the first time as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town on Sunday, the Premier League club where Ed Sheeran is a co-owner
by Alex Richards · The MirrorRuben Amorim was left with a face like thunder after seeing his first post-match interview as Manchester United manager GATECRASHED by Ed Sheeran.
The Portuguese had just seen his new side fail to secure a victory on his Premier League debut. United got off to a flying start at Portman Road as Marcus Rashford opened the scoring after just 81 seconds.
But Omari Hutchinson equalised with a superb effort in the 43rd minute to level proceedings and it was Kieran McKenna's men who looked most likely winners, with Amorim left indebted to Andre Onana for two magnificent saves to deny Liam Delap.
The point leaves United in 12th, and Amorim - who had dubbed himself ‘the smiling one’ on Friday - cut a frustrated figure before making his way to talk to Sky post-game. However, he seemed in jovial enough mood as he began to speak out on the pitch in East Anglia, but things turned awkward when Sheeran - seemingly set to talk to presenter Kelly Cates and pundits Roy Keane, Jamie Redknapp and Izzy Christiansen - appeared and took centre stage.
Amorim's face, as he was interrupted mid-flow by the smiling singer, was a picture and his pursed lips suggested he was anything but impressed by Sheeran's early arrival.
“It’s a tough league,” Amorim had told Sky Sports when asked for his initial impressions of Premier League life. “What you learn in the first moment, a good environment. I think my players were thinking too much during the game. You can feel it.”
He added: “It is a tough match. I think we lost some balls without pressure. When you start the game like this, you score one goal and then you have to control the ball, you have to control the tempo of the game.
“We cannot do it at the moment, but they tried, they really, really tried. I know for some guys it’s hard to understand this but they are really, really trying and they want this.”
And the Portuguese coach is not promising any immediate fixes as he looks to make his mark at Old Trafford.
“We have two ways: we try to just win games, don’t risk nothing in this moment, and I guarantee next year at the same stage, we will have the same problems. The players will be confused sometimes but we have to address since this moment the new idea and try to be better.”
He also agreed that decision-making is an area that needs to improve, saying: “I think that is a concern. We are doing some things not in the right moment so that is something that we have to address.
"Everybody talks about the 3-4-3. That is not the concern. The system is the system but, the understanding of the game, I think we have to improve a lot in this area.”
He warned fans they will have a wait to see significant improvements, adding: “They want this. Sometimes they don’t know how to get it, that was my feeling. We try to find things about the players, and we will need a lot of time to work out these things.”
United legend Roy Keane was however very critical of United's display on Amorim's debut.
"He's got big problems," said Keane. "You have to give the man a chance but the threat going forward, it's a huge problem for Man United. It's not good enough.
