Jamie Carragher makes new FSG demand after Mohamed Salah sends Liverpool eight points clear

Mohamed Salah scored twice as the Reds came from 2-1 down to beat Southampton 3-2 and extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table

Jamie Carragher was quick to acclaim Mo Salah after the Liverpool legend sent the Reds eight points clear at the top of the Premier League at Southampton.

Liverpool were far from their best on a blustery day on the south coast, but took the lead after half an hour through Dominik Szoboszlai.

However, a mixture of sloppy play from the visitors and an impressive showing from Southampton saw the hosts take the lead with goals either side of half-time, as Adam Armstrong levelled when he followed up his penalty which had been saved by Caoimhin Kelleher, before Matheus Fernandes finished well from a fine break.

Enter Salah though, as the Reds icon turned things around in spectacular style, first knocking the ball past the stranded Alex McCarthy after the veteran stopper had attempted to come out of his goal, before firing home the winning penalty after a handball from Saints sub Yukinari Sugawara.

It was after that penalty, which Salah fired high into the net past the dive of McCarthy, that Sky Sports co-commentator Carragher perfectly summed up how Liverpool fans feel about the forward, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Following the goal Carragher said: "He is one of the greatest players to ever play for Liverpool Football Club of that there is no doubt. Everyone associated with Liverpool Football Club wants to see him playing for them next season."

Carragher then referenced a banner on the Kop at Liverpool's recent Premier League match against Aston Villa which called for owners FSG to give Salah the deal he wants and keep him at the club beyond the end of this season.

Reds midfielder Szoboszlai summed up the game afterwards, saying: "They are a good team, good with the ball. They scored two quick goals but the most important thing was the reaction. We showed it very well and happy with the three points.

"We had a couple of meetings before the game and we know they build-up from the back. Sometimes they do well, sometimes they make mistakes and that was the case here. We pressed really well and got the goal."
