Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard injury updates as Arsenal take 'significant' decision

by Mark Jones · The MirrorBukayo Saka is still facing a race against time to be fit for Arsenal's return to Premier League action against Nottingham Forest - although there is more positive news on team-mate Leandro Trossard both on and off the pitch.
Gunners star Saka was forced off in the closing stages of the 1-1 draw with Chelsea before the international break, and he subsequently became one of the raft of withdrawals from the England squad along with team-mate Declan Rice.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta offered a bleak update at full-time at Stamford Bridge, saying: "It doesn't look good, because for two players of that importance to tell you they cannot continue in the game [versus Chelsea], obviously it's not good news."
Arteta's immediate concern was likely to be that both players didn't join up with the England squad, and he will still be hopeful that both can feature against Forest as the Gunners look to get their Premier League season back on track.
Meanwhile Trossard is thought to have suffered 'severe bruising' when in action for Belgium against Israel on Sunday night, with the Gunners hopeful that he will be ready for the weekend after he was withdrawn in the first half in a match played in Budapest.
There were immediate concerns that Trossard had followed in the footsteps of Saka and captain Martin Odegaard in suffering a serious blow on international duty, but those fears have now been allayed.
In addition to the positive injury news Trossard has entered talks over a new Gunners deal with a 'significant' pay rise as per the Mail Online, with the forward set for an increase on the £90,000 a week deal he signed when he joined the club from Brighton in January 2023.
His current contract expires in the summer of 2027, but Arsenal are hoping to tie him down to a longer deal to reflect his growing importance to the club under Arteta, as well as stave off any transfer interest in him from Saudi Arabia.
Any pay rise is likely to bump Trossard into the realms of six figures a week, with the forward hopeful he can repay his club's fait in him on the pitch as soon as this weekend.
