Mohamed Salah can't hide true feelings on Man City slump after another Liverpool win

Liverpool have pulled eight points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table thanks to Mohamed Salah's brace at Southampton

Mo Salah knows Liverpool have to keep taking advantage of Manchester City's remarkable slump in form if they are to stay out in front in the Premier League title race.

After City lost 4-0 at home to Tottenham on Saturday evening - their fifth straight defeat in all competitions and third in the Premier League - Liverpool eventually got the better of Southampton on Sunday thanks to a second half brace from Salah.

The Reds were far from their best on the south coast, and after taking the lead through Dominik Szoboszlai they found themselves 2-1 down at the start of the second half thanks to goals from Adam Armstrong and Mateus Fernandes.

Enter Salah though, and after the Egyptian fired Liverpool level when he punished a mistake from goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, a handball from Yukinari Sugawara allowed the forward to fire home the winner from the spot and spark wild celebrations.

Reflecting on the importance of his goals at full-time, Salah told Sky Sports: "They were very important, especially after being down 2-1. It's the most important thing to have won the game.

"Each game is different. They had a game plan and played very well. We managed to come back and win the game. I think we have a good game plan, we played our game and I was confident we would create chances.

"It's great. Hopefully, we keep going in that direction. We have a game against them so hopefully, we win it and go 11 points clear. Man City is Man City. They have a bad time now but they have great players."

Southampton committed errors in the build-up to each Liverpool goal, and Szoboszlai says that it was in the visitors' gameplan to try and punish the hosts when they played out from the back.

Reflecting on his first goal, he said: "We had a couple of meetings before the game and we know they build-up from the back. Sometimes they do well, sometimes they make mistakes and that was the case here. We pressed really well and got the goal."
