Real Madrid coach crashes on motorway after Champions League loss to Liverpool

Real Madrid's team coach was involved in a crash on the motorway following their loss to Liverpool.

The incident appeared to happen on the M40 as footage circulated on social media showing stationary coach, which appeared to have been struck by a lorry. No players or staff were onboard, but the vehicles was carrying the kit.

Teams typically fly back home immediately after a European match. But even if players and staff were to have flown back to Spain, their coach would still need to be driven back to Madrid and the M40 is the conventional route a vehicle would take as they went from the north west to the coast.

The Spanish giants, who have struggled early in the defence of their Champions League crown, were beaten 2-0 at Anfield on Wednesday night. Alexis Mac Allister and Copy Gakpo scored as Kylian Mbappe missed a penalty with his struggles continuing.

The new-look luxury Real Madrid bus was unveiled back in October 2024 with the hi-tech branding meant to copy the revamped Bernabeu, which has been rebuilt at a cost of £1.5billion.

It isn't the first time the Los Blancos coach has been involved in a crash with a similar incident happening back in February. Carlo Ancelotti's side travelled to a Champions League clash with RB Leipzig and flew into Erfurt, rather than Leipzig, due to a strike at that Airport.

This meant that they had to finish their journey with a 100-mile bus journey and German outlet Bild reported that they were involved in a collision with a white Toyota.

Jude Bellingham, on his return to England, said after Real's third loss in five European games: "Kylian is a wonderful player but the pressure is humongous. The penalty is not why we lost the game. Kylian can keep his head high and I know for sure he will produce many more big moments for this club."

Carlo Ancelotti said on Real's display: "We did okay in the first half, we held them and set up quite well and defended well as a unit. In transitions we were okay. But then we lost the ball and once we gained the ball we made the wrong decision going forward."
