Frank Lampard's wife Christine has opened up on their son Freddie's passion for wearing football kits - despite his refusal to wear an England shirt.

Chelsea legend Lampard played for the Blues for 13 years between 2001 and 2014 after joining from London rivals West Ham for £11m. He also earned 106 England caps, scoring 29 goals.

Given his father's pedigree, it's no surprise Lampard's son Freddie is football-obsessed, but his kit preference doesn't currently align with his dad's favourite.

The former One Show host has now revealed that Lampard junior changes into a different kit each day - with a current fondness for Mum's home country of Northern Ireland's shirt instead of England.

Christine told The Mirror: "My little boy's obsessed with kits and at the moment he wants to wear them every day. At the minute he loves the Northern Irish kit which is obviously all green.

"He's got the new England kit actually, his aunt bought it for him recently, but he doesn't want to wear it. He comes downstairs and Frank's like 'do you know what you did? ' And I get a little kick out of that!"

Things could get a little more awkward in the near future as well, with Lampard hinting that his dream job would be to manage the England national team earlier this week. The role has been vacant since Gareth Southgate departed following the 2-1 extra-time Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain in July.

Appearing on The Sports Agents podcast, Lampard said: "As an English player who played 100-plus times, and an English person who's very proud – of course, the England set up is something... I never dreamed of playing as many times for England, let alone now as a coach.

"So, now as a coach, you know, I think I would be crazy to sort of say, ‘Oh no, that would never interest me.’ It would have to be something that they would want me to do, and have to be something that I want to do and thought I could add value to it in any way."

Christine, who grew up near Belfast, made this revelation about Freddie while discussing her involvement in a new all-female football podcast, Not Just Football, alongside friends Kelly Cates and Hayley McQueen.

This weekly series will explore football-related topics from a fresh perspective, following the success of The Overlap and Stick to Football podcasts. Christine, who is married to former footballer and manager Frank, Kelly, whose father is Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish, and Hayley, daughter of the late Manchester United hero Gordon McQueen, all have deep ties to the world of football.
