Former Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata has had to vacate his newly acquired plush residence after the local mayor, Marco Ballarini, inadvertently compromised his safety.

The Spanish international, who recently captained Spain to triumph in Euro 2024 and shifted from Atletico Madrid to AC Milan during the off-season, settled in Corbetta, located roughly 20 miles west of Milan city.

But the situation took an unexpected turn when Mayor Ballarini greeted the 31-year-old father of three who recently separated from his partner Alice with open arms. Although well intentioned, this gesture backfired.

With just over 18,000 residents in Corbetta, according to the latest census, the news of Morata's whereabouts spread swiftly among locals, leading Morata to feel his privacy was infringed upon.

In a pointed Instagram story, Morata expressed his frustration: "Dear Mr Mayor, thanks for violating my privacy," adding sarcastically, "Thankfully I don't have anything of value", reports the Mirror.

He further addressed his concerns about his family's safety by stating: "The only treasures I have are my children, whose security has been jeopardised by you. I thought that the town of Corbetta could afford me a certain amount of privacy."

"Instead I find myself having to move house straight away, thanks to your inabilities to use social media and to safeguard your citizens."

Morata's spell at Milan signifies a homecoming to Italy for the forward, having previously enjoyed two tenures at Juventus. He found the back of the net on his debut against Torino in August and notched another goal in a 3-0 triumph over Lecce at September's end.

Paulo Fonseca's squad currently occupy third place in the Serie A standings after bouncing back from a sluggish beginning, but have tasted defeat in their opening two Champions League fixtures. They fell to Liverpool at home in their first match, followed by a 1-0 loss on the road to Bayer Leverkusen.

"It's true that we didn't win, but it was the performance I liked the most since I arrived here," Fonseca shared with Sky Sports Italia (via Football Italia) following the setback in Germany. His side will get another shot at securing their first points on October 22 when Club Brugge visit the San Siro.

"Above all in the second half, we had a fantastic performance, we created so many chances and just failed to convert them, which is not easy against a team like Bayer," the Milan boss added. "We were sad in the dressing room, but we must also be balanced and recognise what we did. I am not satisfied with the result, but I am satisfied with the approach."
