I'm a £62.5m star linked to Chelsea – this is how I truly feel about sealing a transfer

Chelsea enjoyed a busy summer transfer window this year, but the Stamford Bridge outfit could look to bolster their squad further in January - with one goalkeeper in particular on Enzo Maresca's radar

Chelsea's reported target Diogo Costa has made his intentions of playing Premier League football clear.

The Blues have been linked with a move for the Portuguese goal keeper, who currently crafts his trade in the Primara Liga with Porto - despite bringing in 11 new faces over the summer window ahead of the new season. According to Italian reporter Rudy Galetti, Costa caught the eye over Enzo Maresca this summer - and while an agreement never came to fruition, the new boss may have his hands in his wallet at the turn of the year.

Chelsea, of course are well stocked in terms of goalkeepers at present, with Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, Marcus Bettinelli and Lucas Bergstrom all on the books - as well as Djordje Petrovic out on loan to Strasbourg - however, they may be considering taking their starting XI to the next level through the acquisition of a world-class number one.

25-year-old Costa spent eight years as a part of Porto's youth set-up, before signing his first professional contract with the B-team in 2017. He broke into the first team in 2019, and has gone on to keep 69 clean sheets in 164 appearances. At international level, Costa has also represented Portugal on 29 occasions, featuring as one of the first names on the team sheet for Roberto Martinez at the recent Euro 2024 tournament in Germany - making it to the quarter finals of the competition before being ousted on penalties by France.

However, should Chelsea hope to secure Costa's services, they may be forced to pay his reported £62.5million release clause - as he is under contract with Porto until the end of June 2027. They may also have some tempting to do to bring the player to west London, as he has admitted that he is content sticking with his boyhood club for the duration of his career.

In an interview with the BBC, he said: "What I always say is true - if I never leave Porto, the club I love and learned to play football in, then I will be a happy guy, but we all know what is the life of a footballer." Chelsea also aren't the only side who have been linked with the goalkeeper as of late.

Premier League champions Manchester City are said to have also previously expressed an interest in Costa, while Manchester United and Spurs have also been linked with the Portuguese number one in recent years - albeit, the latter have since brought in Andre Onana and Guglielmo Vicario respectively.

Thanks in part to Costa's efforts, Porto currently sit second in the Primera Liga standings after seven games played. The side have achieved six wins and just one loss out of their opening matches, and are three points behind league leaders Sporting CP, who have had a flawless campaign thus far.

Chelsea, meanwhile sit fourth in the Premier League with four wins, one draw and one loss from their first six games - Sanchez keeping clean sheets against Bournemouth and West Ham this season thus far.
