I won three Premier League titles with Man Utd - this is what Arsenal must do to be champions
by Sam Truelove · football.londonFormer Manchester United first team coach Rene Meulensteen has revealed what Arsenal must do to ensure they stay in the race to win the Premier League.
The Gunners are currently nine points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, with Mikel Arteta's side currently fourth having not won any of their past four league games. Manchester City are four points ahead of Arsenal and the north Londoners really do need to put a run of results together to ensure they remain in the race.
They welcome Nottingham Forest to Emirates Stadium this weekend and with both Man City and Liverpool playing after the Gunners' 3pm kick-off, Arteta's side can put the pressure on if they secure three points. One man who knows a thing or two about winning silverware is Meulensteen.
The Netherlands coach spent five years as a first team coach at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson, winning three Premier League titles in that period, alongside one Champions League and two League Cups. Asked about Arsenal's title hopes this season, Meulensteen believes the Gunners cannot afford to lose two more games.
Speaking to TribalFootball.com, Meulensteen said: "In the last two seasons Arsenal have had to experience massive disappointment. But they showed great resilience coming back last season and going so close until the last few games of the season.
"This season they have fallen away a little bit and suffered so many injuries, but they can still turn this around because they do have a lot of character. The experience of the last two seasons will help them.
"They need to stay calm, not to panic and hope that Liverpool and Manchester City slip up which will allow them to make ground at the top of the table. It’s still before Christmas and there are so many games left to play.
"Having said that, you’d think that if they lost another two games that might be too much to make up. They need to hope that Manchester City continue their blip and that Liverpool’s form doesn’t continue. I don’t think there will be one team running away with it this season."
