Kildare GAA: No shocks as Celbridge, Athy march on to semis in SFC

Wins for Milltown and Rathangan (after extra time) at IFC level while Kilcock defeated St Laurence's in the SFC relegation decider

No upsets in this afternoon's Joe Mallon SFC quarter-finals with comfortable wins for the favourites Celbridge and Athy.

Celbridge were never really troubled by Clane, the north Kildare boys led at the break 1-6 to 0-3, the vital goal coming from Aaron Browne after his initial penalty was saved but came back to him and he made no mistake at the second time asking.

There were no more goals in this one, Celbridge running out comfortable winners, in a game that never reached any real heights. Celbridge 1-15 Clane 0-7.

The third game at Hawkfield saw Athy come through as expected, they led  1-7 to 0-7 at the break, Kevin Feely firing to the net after just three minutes.

Four minutes into the second half that lead had gone to 2-9 to 0-8, Ben Purcell getting the second major but Raheens replied immediately with a Jack Taaffe goal.

The Raheens lads did cut the lead back to two points on 38 minutes but there was no stopping Athy as they hit five points in a five minute spell and James Eaton put th icing on the cake with a goal on 54 minutes. Final score: Athy 3-15 Raheens 1-13

In the Joe Mallon Motors SFC relegation decider Kilcock retained their senior status following a fine second half display against St Laurence's when turning a three point half-time deficit, into a six point victory. St Laurence's will now drop to intermediate grade in 2025.

In The Auld Shebeen Athy IFC quarter-final Milltown continued their impressive form with a fine win over St Kevin's to book a place in the last four on a score line of Milltownm 2-14 St Kevin's 1-13.

The final game on Saturday was another in the IFC and it absolutely was a cracker with Ben Ryan getting a point in time added on for Towers to force extra time.

Rathangan then led at the break, 3-8 to 0-16 and in the end it was a goal by Ben Murphy and a free by Sam Savage that got Rathangan over the line on a final score line of Rathangan 4-9 Round Towers 0-16.
