Man injured in Real Madrid coach crash on M40 as police make plea

The driver of a Real Madrid bus was injured after the team coach crashed on the M40 earlier today. Emergency services rushed to the collision involving the coach, lorry and a car in Warwickshire - as police made a plea for motorists not to take pictures or videos while driving.

Traffic was halted while police and an ambulance crew stopped at the scene between junction 16, near Hockley Heath, and junction 15, near Warwick, on the southbound carriageway. Warwickshire Police confirmed that no players were on board at the time of the crash.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said that a man, who was the coach driver, was treated for minor injuries. He was later discharged at the scene. It was reported that another driver, a security member and travel manager were on board the bus at the time of the crash.

An ambulance service spokesman told BirminghamLive: "We were called to reports of a collision involving a coach, lorry and car on the southbound M40, between junctions 16 and 15, at 1.19pm, one ambulance attended the scene. On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was the coach driver. He was treated for minor injuries and discharged at the scene."

Warwickshire Police said in a statement: "Our officers responded to reports of a collision involving a car, a lorry, and the coach of a well-known football team on the M40 southbound between junction 16 for Hockley Heath and junction 15 for Warwick.

"Fortunately, nobody was seriously injured. The players from the well-known football team were not on the coach at the time. We have seen photos and videos of the collision on social media so we would like to remind people that it is illegal to take photos and videos while in control of a vehicle!"
