Conspiratorial Fans Think PS5 Ad Teasing December State of Play, PlayStation Showcase
Grubb says hold your horses
by Khayl Adam · Push SquareJust yesterday, we brought you word of Sony's jazzy new PS5 ad, reminding us that Play Has No Limits. Apparently, we weren't operating on a high enough level to catch Sony clearly telegraphing a PlayStation Showcase or State of Play for 3rd December 2024, which is what some conspiratorial fans now believe.
In a blink-and-you-'ll-miss-it frame, at the top of a flight arrival screen, a date can be made out: 03 12 2024. This was clearly not put there by accident, and we must admit to feeling a little tingle of excitement as that date, a Tuesday, marks PlayStation's 30th Anniversary. On ResetEra, hopeful fans point out that for PlayStation's 25th anniversary, a PlayStation Showcase was held on 3rd December, with the legendary Ken Kutaragi delivering a pre-recorded speech to mark the occasion.
Now, we want to believe. But insider Jeff Grub, who we trust more than any portent or prophecy, weighed in, telling us not to get our hopes up in regards to a December event. If you didn't know, Grubb is regarded as a Tier 2 - Reliable Source over on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, which is kind of a big deal (in some circles).

Or they just had to pick a date for their simulated flight screen, and thought of having a bit of fun with it. Or even just picked it by coincidence since they were expecting to put the ad out for the holiday season.
The odds that the marketing department working on this ad is even actively communicating with the branch that works on State of Plays is miniscule at best.

Not necessarily that day, but I feel that there's an unannounced event later this year that will reveal the MGS Delta release date.

Tier 2 just means generally reliable, or over 50/50, as far as I could tell from looking at their tiers. So still not that great (or "a big deal", if you ask me). But assuming that there will be a presentation on these grounds alone is also quite flimsy.

3rd December has the disadvantage of being in the Christmas shopping season. From a marketing standpoint, you want to put your message before Black Friday, and then ride this wave till the end. With a show on 3rd December, Sony could create negative feelings for some customers, who have already bought the presents and then regret it because something more fitting is announced.
Therefore, I don’t believe in a show with major new announcements.

They had a 25th anniversary event on 3/12/2019 so this theory has history on its side.
Even if Sony have a showcase there is little chance of them not holding stuff back for the end of year Geoff-fest so I’ll wait and see what they do.
The last thing needed is people looking for unannounced events that may not exist to build false hype.
It doesn’t matter what Sony do someone will always look to start rumours and speculation about what to expect that result in people getting upset that Sony aren’t doing anything or don’t have game x to show as if Sony are at fault for that false hope

Possibly a PS Showcase since Nishino already said started next year they will release major games for every year. So I'm not surprised if they wants to tease those games from ND, Bluepoint, Housemarque etc as well some 3rd party games.
And like @colonelkilgore said about past event which Sony celebrated PS 25th anniversary with PS Experience. I don't know if they gonna held another PS Experience but i can see they throw a showcase and big discount on PS Store.

Could it be an announcement that Flight Sim 2024 is heading to PlayStation?
Nah I don't think so. I feel their focus will be in push the Playstation pro for the Christmas period.

Grub is a Tier 2 leaker so that means Midori is Tier 1
To paraphrase Ivan Drago, if it happens it happens.
Grubb the scrub, will never take him seriously>
@Bagwag82 They can, and should do both.
Part of Pro marketing has to be games that are coming.
It's definitely happening if Grubb says it ain't! He's wrong more often than not, literally only getting things right through repetition.

If you're in the U.S., 03/12/24 is March 12th, 2024 and has already happened!
@RoomWithaMoose It wasn't showing a date though, the 20:24 was shown as as the time, so they're pointing that date out specifically.
December 3rd also happens to fall in a Tuesday which usually is Sony's favorite day for a State of Play.

@pyrrhic_victory on so, so many levels I for one am forever grateful I’m not in the U.S.(A.) 😅
That out of the way… not to be too pedantic (I hope?!): on scrubbing the video a few times I noticed the panel actually says “03 12 20:24”, so maybe if we do get an announcement on 3 Dec it’ll be held at 8:24pm (UTC…?)?… conspiracy theorists GOGOGO!! 🤪

@XanderTigerclaw Yeah, I wouldn't mind living in the UK or anywhere else for the next four years...and on that note, I'll see myself out!
What crack are they on? There will be the TGAs few days later so obviously not
@LowDefAl do you think this now lazy Sony will do both. I don't think they know their ar*e from their elbow these days. Lol
Let's hope they do
2097??? Is it sign of a potential return for Wipeout??

Reminds me of a few years ago at TGS people were doing some weird conspiracy stuff being convinced MS had bought Sega...turned out it was just them promoting some of Sega's game and a Sonic anniversary controller.
@Max_the_German this doesn't make much sense because of any major announcements happened they wouldn't be coming out before Christmas, when does that ever happen? They'd be for 2025-26
