Lidl recalls products over 'possible presence of copper' as shoppers warned

by · ChronicleLive

Lidl has warned shoppers not to eat two popular salad products sold in stores because they "may contain pieces of copper".

The supermarket has issued a recall for its Meadow Fresh Potato Salads due to the possible presence of the metal, which makes them unsafe to eat. Customers who have bought the affected products are advised to return them to their nearest Lidl store to receive a full refund.

Any customers with queries or concerns can also contact Lidl Customer Services on 0203 966 5566 or customer.care@lidl.co.uk. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) confirmed in an alert warning shoppers of the risk that Lidl will display notices in all stores selling the salads informing customers that they have been pulled from sale.

Two potato salad products with multiple use by dates are affected, with Lidl shoppers urged to check their fridges. Here are the full details of which items should not be eaten:

  • Meadow Fresh Potato Salad with Yoghurt: Pack size 500g / Use by date 07 December 2024, 13 December 2024, 14 December 2024, 16 December 2024, 21 December 2024
  • Meadow Fresh Potato Salad with Crème Fraiche: Pack size 500g / 12 December 2024, 16 December 2024, 23 December 2024.

This is not the only food recall that supermarket shoppers should be aware of when checking their fridges. On Wednesday, Tesco pulled a popular dip from stores over a food poisoning risk.

The retailer issued a recall for a batch of its Tesco Tzatziki Dip because salmonella was found in the product. Only packs with a best before date of November 24 are affected, with the bacteria that can cause fever, diarrhoea and stomach cramps found during routine testing.

Tesco has urged anyone who has purchased packs of the Greek-inspired yoghurt and cucumber dip with this date code not to eat it. Instead, affected customers can return the product to any Tesco store to receive a full refund with no receipt needed, and Tesco's customer service team can be contacted on 0800 505 555 for more information.
