Condensation on windows is a common issue in all types of properties, from houses to flats. This problem can be particularly troublesome during the late autumn and winter months when the warm air inside the home meets the cold glass of the windows, causing condensation.

This leads to moisture and water droplets on your windows, which can result in damp and mould. The issue is more prevalent in bedrooms as moisture from your breath and body heat can build up in the room while you sleep, leading to condensation.

Cardiff Window Cleaner's team has offered advice on what to do if you find your windows misty in the morning. They suggest that if you wake up and discover condensation on your bedroom windows, "a great way to clear away the condensation and prevent it from coming back for good" is by using a homemade solution.

Simply combine two cups of water with two cups of white vinegar and add a few drops of washing-up liquid. Pour this mixture into a spray bottle and apply it directly onto your window.

So, how does this work? Well, white vinegar creates a protective barrier, and soap breaks down the surface tension of the droplets on your window. Vinegar is also effective at removing mould and can help prevent its return.

The cleaners recommend using a spray bottle to create a very thin protective layer, which will dry up by itself. Households might opt for a sponge or cloth, but "it will take longer to dry", particularly in already damp air.

Along with this smart hack, it's suggested that homes should air out their bedrooms and any rooms prone to condensation and mould. This can be done by cracking the windows open every morning for around 10 to 15 minutes.

This ensures ongoing airflow, helping moisture make its escape outdoors instead of settling as condensation on your windows. Retaining cleanliness, especially in the window tracks, is also recommended to prevent mould from making an unwelcome comeback.
