Apple has plans to enhance its personal assistant, Siri even more. While we are yet to see the advances coming with Apple Intelligence, the company has plans to take it up a notch. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is working on an advanced Siri, eyeing to compete with other leading chatbots like ChatGPT. Since the revamped Siri will utilise advanced large language model, for now the project is named as LLM Siri.

Apple is working on transforming Siri into a more conversational and intelligent assistant. The goal is to enable Siri to engage in continuous conversations with users and respond in a more natural, human-like manner. With the integration of large language models, Siri will also be capable of handling more complex tasks, something that currently requires OpenAI’s ChatGPT in iOS 18.2.

As part of the iOS 18 update, Apple is enhancing Siri’s functionality through Apple Intelligence, which will improve Siri’s ability to manage tasks within and between apps. This innovation will serve as a foundation for a new version of Siri. Apple will employ a first-generation large language model (LLM) to assess user requests and determine whether the current Siri infrastructure can process them or if a more advanced LLM should be used for intricate queries.

The updated Siri is being tested in a standalone app on iPhones, iPads, and Macs, and will eventually replace the existing version. Apple is expected to announce the new Siri as early as 2025, potentially during its Worldwide Developers Conference in June, alongside the launch of iOS 19. However, while there will be early previews of the updated Siri, Apple does not plan to release it immediately. The current aim is for a full rollout by spring 2026, though this timeline could be subject to change depending on development progress.

With these updates, Siri will be more capable of performing a broader range of tasks and providing a more dynamic, conversational experience, positioning it as a more advanced personal assistant for Apple users.

For now, the immediate update coming to Siri will arrive in December. With the stable version, eligible users can use Siri as a middle-man. Siri can now pass requests to ChatGPT, a fully optional feature that doesn’t require an account. You can allow Siri to send requests to ChatGPT without needing permission each time, enabling it to provide more detailed information and generate images and text. It also supports on-screen responses, so you can ask questions about images you’re viewing.

Siri now also has an updated and cool UI. Ask for Siri and now the whole screen will glow up.
