  • The next gen MacBook Air to come with M4 chip
  • Apple likely to launch between January and March
  • Following MacBook Air, Apple is also expected to launch iPhone SE4

Apple always spans its new product launch lineup across the year. This year, the Cupertino giant launched the M3 MacBook Air in the spring, followed by the iPad lineup with the M4 chip, WWDC, the iPhone 16 launch, and most recently, the new-gen MacBook Pro with the latest and most powerful M4 chip. With this, Apple's launch spree of 2024 seems to be over. And next, Apple is planning to start 2025 with fresh product launches, with the next iteration of the MacBook Air.

The MacBook Air is expected to join the M4 lineup early next year, alongside updates to the Mac Studio and Mac Pro. According to a recent report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing to start production on new MacBook Air models equipped with the M4 chip. These laptops, available in both 13-inch and 15-inch variants, are slated for an early 2025 release, possibly between January and March. While the design of the MacBook Air will remain consistent with its current form, Gurman suggests that the new-gen MacBook Air will focus on internal upgrades to improve performance.

In line with the improved performance, one of the most anticipated changes is an increase in base RAM. Following the trend set by the M3 MacBook Air, which increased the base RAM from 8GB to 16GB, the M4 variant is again expected to give a RAM upgrade to its Air MacBook Air. Additionally, the M4 MacBook Air could also arrive with a new 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View support, replacing the existing 1080p FaceTime HD camera.

After the M4 MacBook Air hits the market, Apple is expected to shift its focus to refreshing the Mac Studio. Initial rumors suggested the Mac Studio would arrive in early 2025. However, new reports indicate that Apple is now planning its release between March and June 2025. The new-generation Mac Studio will likely feature M4 Ultra or M4 Max processors.

Additionally, the new Mac Studio is expected to include Thunderbolt 5 ports, offering faster data transfer speeds and improved connectivity.

Joining the Mac Studio in this launch session is the Mac Pro. The next Mac Pro refresh is expected in summer 2025, skipping the M3 generation and leaping directly to the M4 Ultra chip—internally codenamed “Hydra.”

The upcoming M4 Ultra chip could feature up to a 32-core CPU and an 80-core GPU, effectively doubling the performance capabilities of the current M4 Max chip. Additionally, the Mac Pro may support up to 512GB of unified memory, a significant upgrade from the current 192GB limit. Thunderbolt 5 ports are also anticipated, ensuring seamless connectivity for professional workflows.
