Abandoned car that became 'historical landmark' finally removed from side of Nottinghamshire road

A crashed car that was abandoned at the side of a Nottinghamshire road for months and became a local attraction has finally been removed. The "Blue Car" has been dubbed a landmark by passerbys, who also awarded it 14 five-star reviews on Google.

This comes after the Vauxhall crashed on the A617 between Mansfield and Newark on September 10. The car was then left dumped on the site of the road until its removal this week.

Blue and white police tape was also surrounding the vehicle, but it is understood the driver was spoken to at the scene by police after avoiding serious injury. Despite the incident, commuters passing the care daily seemed to have found a silver lining to the incident, as they "reviewed" the abandoned car on Google.

One tongue-in-check review reads: "Absolutely picturesque landmark. The stunning blue colour stands out from the road! 10/10." Someone else added: "I’ve seen a lot of blue cars over the years but this is my favourite. So creative and not what you’d expect. A real pinch me moment when you first see it but then as you look closer you just think 'how did they do that?!'"

Resident Tom Williams, however, highlighted the dangers of the road. He said: “It’s been months and the car is still there. It’s become a joke in the village, but on a serious note there’s regular crashes going into the village and cars speed through constantly.

"Something needs to be done before someone is killed. The police and the council don’t seem to care. Maybe the blue car will increase our tourism footprint.”
