DVLA launches major new crackdown that will affect every driver in the UK

The DVLA has rolled out a new service revolutionising car tax renewals, offering huge benefits to UK drivers. The improved system now allows motorists to tax their vehicles online even without a V5C log book or a V11 reminder letter, a boon for those who have misplaced these documents.

It enables customers to request a fresh V5C and handle their vehicle tax in one go via the DVLA's website—provided there are no updates needed to their ownership information. Consequently, they can instantly tax their new vehicle and anticipate a replacement V5C by post.

Julie Lennard, Head of the DVLA, commented on the recent innovation: "We are always looking for ways to improve our digital services to provide more convenience for motorists. This latest enhancement will enable customers who have misplaced or lost their V5C to get a replacement and tax their vehicle quickly and easily."

In addition, the DVLA has introduced a feature allowing drivers to opt for digital reminders when their vehicle tax is due, as part of its move towards streamlined online services through the Driver and Vehicles Account Service, thus reducing the reliance on traditional mail.

The RAC's website provides guidance for drivers stating: "Accounts are easy-to-use, secure, and only take a few minutes to set up. Once an account is live, drivers can sign in using their email and password, and be able to view their driving licence information, including endorsements and penalty points; view vehicles that are registered to them including tax and MOT status; change their contact preferences; set up vehicle tax reminders by email and for the first time by SMS text; and choose to stop getting vehicle tax reminders by post.", reports Wales Online.
