More technical glitches are plaguing Shanda Hill as she attempts the toughest physical race in the world.

The Vernon ultra athlete is competing in the the Triple Deca Ultra Triathlon in Italy.

The Triple Deca, which started Sept. 1, consists of a 114-km swim, a 5,400-km bike ride and a 1,266-km run. It's the first race of its kind in the world.

She completed the swimming portion of the race in 96 hours and as of Friday morning, she has cycled an astounding 4,300 km.

During the cycling portion of the race, Hill has endured torrential rains, extreme fatigue, a power outage and even animal poop on the road.

And once again, Hill and the other athletes on the race are dealing with another power outage, which is having a severe negative impact on her performance.

“This morning, Shanda is experiencing an all-time low. The athletes have been without power for two days, leaving her without critical support,” her partner Jacs wrote on the Shanda Hill Ultra Athlete Facebook page.

“Shanda shared with me how the loss of power has impacted her immensely. Without electricity, she no longer has the use of her electric blanket during the cold nights, leaving her unable to warm up during the little rest time she gets. Her tablet, the last means of communication with me, her friends, and her family, is expected to die by tomorrow. This isolation adds to the mounting stress she faces.”

The lack of power also means Hill can not use her leg massagers, which are crucial for maintaining blood flow while she sleeps, increasing the physical toll on her body.

“Even more concerning is her inability to charge her bike lights. With nightfall just hours away, this loss poses a significant safety risk and could jeopardize her ability to continue the race,” Jacs wrote.
