A38 set for hundreds of motorcycling Santas

Hundreds of motorcycling Santas are getting on their bikes to raise money for a local children's hospice. The Santas will be driving through Devon to Cornwall on Saturday, December 7 in support of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

The ride to the charity’s Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell starts at Lee Mill Industrial Estate at 12.25pm and will pass through Ivybridge, Saltash, Liskeard, Lostwithiel and St Austell.

The bikers can gather at Lee Mill from 11am, and members of the public are welcome to join and support the bikers as they arrive. Spectators can watch the bikers along the route, but are asked not to come to the finish at Little Harbour due to space.

Organisers said: “We’re expecting dozens of Santas riding bikes covered in festive decorations and we cannot wait. Please spread the word, invite your friends and support your local children’s hospice – let’s make this the biggest and best year ever.

“All bikes, trikes and quads are welcome, and the ride is fully L-plate friendly. Don’t worry if you’ve not attended a group ride before, you’ll be made very welcome.

"The route will be fully marshalled so you won't get lost. The ride takes place entirely on open public roads so all bikes should be road legal and all normal road rules apply.”

Last year's event raised £6,000 for CHSW which supports around 130 local families at its Little Harbour hospice.

Annabel Roberts, Area Fundraiser for CHSW, explains what the money means to those families: “The bikers’ fabulous fundraising, and the awareness raised, helps us to continue to offer a light in the dark to families with children with life-limiting conditions - not just over Christmas but 365 days a year. Their support makes such a difference in helping children and families to receive expert medical care while also creating special memories at the children’s hospice. We can’t thank the bikers enough for their continued support.”
