A Malaysian has expressed frustration over the burden of owning a Honda Civic on a monthly salary of RM4,200
The man took to a local Honda Civic club on Facebook, which has over 86,000 members, to vent about his problems last week.
The man, who owns a 2024 Honda Civic RS with a retail price of RM151,560, detailed his income and expenses as follows:
– Salary RM4,200; minus RM500 for EPF and PERKESO
– RM3,700 remained; minus RM1,300 for car loan
– RM2,400 remained; minus RM500 for room rental
– RM1,900 remained; minus RM600 for food expenses
– RM1,300 remained; minus RM200 for his parents
– RM1,100 remained; minus RM200 for fuel
– RM900 remained; minus RM200 for girlfriend's expenses
– RM700 remained; minus RM200 for travel expenses to his hometown
– RM500 remained
"What is the solution? Should I become a Grab driver at night to cover the cost?" the man asked.
At the time of writing, the post has garnered over 660 likes and has been reshared by several social media pages
Netizens offered advice, though many comments were made in jest.
One Facebook user joked, "Increase your income. If you want to do that by being an auto broker, drop me a DM. And you don't need to spend on your girlfriend because she is not your wife yet. So, you are not obliged to pay her nafkah.
"It seems like a fabrication. But what you can do is to [reduce all your expenses]. Break up with your girlfriend. Fast more and reduce spending on food. You can save a few hundred ringgit," said another person.
Other netizens lectured the man for his poor decision.
"Aiya, you already made a mistake [with the Civic purchase]. With a RM4,200 monthly salary, you should have opted for Honda City or Perodua Bezza," read a comment.
"Why did you buy a Civic when you knew your [take-home salary] is RM3,700? People who comfortably drive a Civic should ideally earn more than RM6,000," wrote a person.
Meanwhile, another Facebook user remarked, "I hope you are lying."
