Beauty Black Friday shoppers race for £500 reduction on 'brilliant' hair removal solution
by Jada Jones · Manchester Evening NewsAmazon shoppers are snapping up a beauty device that brings a salon like experience to the home while it's £500 off in a Black Friday deal. The Braun Smart IPL Skin i·Expert would normally cost £899.99 but has dropped down to better than half price £399.99.
The laser hair removal device features three heads, one for precision targeting such as around the delicate pubic area, a standard head for calves and underarms and a wide head for back and thighs. It uses responsive intelligence to adapt to your unique skin and boasts a full body treatment in just 10 minutes.
The IPL works by pulsing light at the melanin within the hair which causes hair to naturally fall out and delays regrowth. It's suitable for a range of skin tones and hair colours but it's worth double checking you're eligible before taking the plunge.

It's brought in an average rating of 4.2 out of 5 from across 80 global ratings. One shopper said: "I have been using the IPL for four weeks now and have already seen a massive difference in growth. I would normally have to shave every 3-4 days on my legs. They are now completely smooth even after a week. I have used the IPL for various different sections and have seen really good results overall. The product is easy to use and sets weekly reminders on your phone. I highly recommend."
A second penned: "I have been looking at IPL devices, mainly Braun, for well over a year now. I liked the idea but was always put off by the cost. Finally took the plunge 4 weeks ago and I am not disappointed. After 4 weekly treatments I’d estimate a reduction in hair growth of about 70%. I have light tan skin and dark hair, so perfect for the machine. Previously in summer, I’d need to shave every 2nd day at least! Now I can easily wear shorts or sleeveless tops a week after shaving, without worrying.
"The smart sensors and app on this version are helpful and easy to use. Shows how much of each area you’ve covered and sets calendar reminders for each session. It is expensive, but when you add up what you’d pay for waxing etc then it pays for itself. That being said I got it on half price offer (which it is quite frequently), and I don’t think I’d pay full price for it. My advice if you’ve been thinking of buying one, snap it up while it’s on offer. I don’t think you’ll regret it!"
Some shoppers have highlighted that this machine is only suited to those with a fair skin tone, with it potentially causing burns on darker skin. One wrote: "This device is designed for Caucasian skin/ fair/very fair skin. Before I start trashing the device let me compliment Braun for its UI. its seamless. it did a skin tone test on me which I passed, meaning the device would be effective.
"Following this I was asked to test the laser on my skin for any reactions, sadly it delivered the highest intensity and IT HURT!!! 15mins later there was redness more pain and somewhat of a wheal situation happening. it asked me to repeat with a lower intensity, but at this point I realised, this was unsafe because I didn't know what it could do to my face."
It has been reported that IPL may be less effective on darker skin tones due to the increased melanin content. There are machines that claim to work on all skin tones, such as the LUX SKIN® IPL Laser Hair Removal Handset, but we would recommend consulting with a dermatologist or expert before making any decisions.
