Police in Cardiff are warning that they have seen an increase in a number of thefts from keyless vehicles. They have issued a warning to the owners of two makes of car in particular.

Officers say that the owners of Land Rover Range Rover and Discovery models and Ford Fiestas should take action to protect their cars after seeing the rise.

South Wales Police said they are also taking actions to "proactively" target vehicle theft and have given some advice to car owners.

Offices are asking motorists with keyless vehicles to consider using:

  • Faraday bags for your car keys at night
  • Steering locks
  • Tracking devices, including those provided by the vehicle manufacturer via an app (these will need to be activated before use)

A statement from the force said: "Our officers proactively patrol to intercept vehicle theft in marked and unmarked vehicles and in uniformed and plain clothes foot patrols. If you see something dodgy? A car that looks unfamiliar parked in your street overnight? If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t."
