Sky customers urged to use one cable for £423 off their TV bill
by James Rodger, https://www.facebook.com/jamesrodgerjournalist · Birmingham LiveSky customers can get £432 off their bill thanks to one cable. Sky TV viewers who pay £36 a month for Stream with Sky TV, Netflix, and Full Fibre Broadband can slash their bills by using Freesat with your existing Sky dish instead.
You can use your existing Sky dish to receive Freesat signals, as they use the same satellite. Freesat explains: “To use Freesat you need a satellite dish, but it doesn’t need to be new! Even if it’s a Sky satellite dish or an older model, all you need to do is plug the satellite cables into the back of your Freesat 4K TV Box [or some smart TVs] and you’re good to go.
“If you’re thinking about moving from Sky TV to Freesat you can use the same satellite dish! The dish you have will affect how many channels you can record at once on your 4K TV Box.” On Reddit, customers have been discussing Freesat.

One typed: "The second cable just enables recording one channel while watching another. When we ditched Sky Q for a Freesat box it was just a case of plugging in the cables and turning the Freesat box on, no tuning required."
A second said: "With a generic satellite dish, yes. I've done some digging and it seems that the SkyQ LNB (the LNB is the bit at the dish which receives the signal) is not the same as a generic LNB. An aerial fitter would be able to switch it for you or you could do it yourself if bold. I'll paste what I found below."
A third wrote: "Yes it is possible to have SkyQ and standard Freesat HD on the same satellite dish. Many households may have Sky Q in the main living room and other Freesat HD satellite receivers or TVs with freesat built in for other rooms in the house.
"For this style of installation you will require a Sky Hybrid LNB. The Hybrid had six outputs, two are wideband for SkyQ and the other four are standard universal outputs so you can connect up to four Freesat TVs or a mix of Freesat Boxes and TVs at the same time."
