Girl, 10, dies after being bitten by her family dog, police say

North Yorkshire Police said this afternoon the girl was killed inside the family home in the Malton area yesterday afternoon.
They were called to the scene by Yorkshire Ambulance Service shortly after 4pm.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals and a brave member of the public who came to the family's aid, the girl tragically died at the scene.
The dog had already been secured by the time emergency services arrived, police report.
It was then taken to secure kennels where it remains as of Saturday afternoon, pending an investigation.
'Our thoughts remain with the girl’s family and friends at this very distressing time. Officers are supporting the family while enquiries continue,' North Yorks police said in a statement.
'We also urge people not to speculate about the incident, respect the family’s privacy and allow them to grieve in peace.
'We will provide more information when we are able to.'
Malton is a market town of some 5,000 people in North Yorkshire.
