Myanmar workers protest in Thailand over broker fraud

The Myanmar workers allegedly paid the Thai brokers between 3,000 and 7,000 baht each, some in cash and some through bank accounts.
The report continued quoting Police Colonel Somchai Khokha, superintendent of Khok Kham police station, when the workers came to the company to investigate, security connected them to two fraudulent brokers. The workers were supposed to start work on November 20, but they were not allowed to work when they went to Index Interfurn Company on Ekachai Road in tambon Khok Kham,.
When a female broker told them that they would be working in the evening, some of the Myanmar workers demanded their money back. The woman said she would pay them back and fled, causing a crowd to gather at the company, the Police Colonel added.
The Myanmar workers then protested, and a manager from the company said that the company was not hiring any workers. The Myanmar workers were told that only 10 people were working in the warehouse because production had stopped.
Regarding the two women who claimed to be brokers, the company manager confirmed that he had never met them before and that they were not employees of the company.
The security guard and other suspects are currently being questioned, and the fake brokers will be charged with fraud, said Police Colonel Somchai Khokha.
