A Russian brigade commander has died after being run over by one of his own troops, it has been reported.

It is believed that one of Vladimir Putin's furious Russian soldiers drove a military tank over Russian Colonel Yuri Medvedev.

Angered by the unit's heavy losses, the soldier is said to have taken Medvedev down in front of other horrified comrades.

It's understood that the incident occurred on the frontline of a protest amid the Ukrainian invasion, according to the Mirror.

Western officials confirmed the killing was "as a consequence of the scale of losses that had been taken by his brigade."

They added: "We believe that he was killed by his own troops deliberately.

Ukrainian journalist Roman Tsimbalyuk shared on Facebook last week why the tank driver likely decided to run over his Medvedev.

Tsimbalyuk said that he “blamed the commander of the group, Col. Yury Medvedev, for the deaths of his friends."

“Having waited for the right moment, during battle, he ran over the commander with a tank as he stood next to him, injuring both his legs."

“Now Col. Medvedev is in a hospital in Belarus, waiting for monetary compensation for combat wounds received during the ‘special military operation to protect the Donbass.’ Colonel Medvedev was awarded the Order of Courage."
