‘NCIS: Origins,’ ‘Poppa’s House’ Get Full Season Pick Ups at CBS

The prequel drama “NCIS: Origins” and the multi-cam comedy “Poppa’s House” have both received full season orders at CBS, Variety has learned. Both shows are produced by CBS Studios.

“’NCIS: Origins’ has added a brilliant new dimension to the NCIS franchise with an origin story of Leroy Jethro Gibbs and a cinematic ’90s experience that features distinct characters, stories and crime solving,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “‘Poppa’s House’ excels with the dynamic father/son chemistry between Damon and Damon Jr. and their family-inspired stories that bring this comedy to life. These shows fit seamlessly into our Monday night lineup while resonating with viewers on CBS and Paramount+.”

Both shows will now air 18 episodes in their first season. This is the latest full season order CBS has given out this fall, with the “Young Sheldon” spinoff “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage” picked up for a full season in October, while the Kathy Bates-led “Matlock” has already been renewed for Season 2.

“NCIS: Origins” debuted on Oct. 14. According to VideoAmp and CBS streaming data, the series premiere has been seen by 9 million viewers after seven days of multiplatform viewing, while “Poppa’s House,” which launched on Oct. 21, has been seen by 6.41 million.

“NCIS: Origins” stars Austin Stowell as a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs in 1991. Per the official logline, “Gibbs starts his career as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling NCIS Camp Pendleton office, where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid).”

Mark Harmon, who played Gibbs in the original “NCIS,” serves as the series’ narrator and executive producer. The cast also includes Mariel Molino, Tyla Abercrumbie, Diany Rodriguez and Caleb Foote. Harmon and his son Sean executive produce along with David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal.

“Poppa’s House” stars Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. as well as Essence Atkins and Tetona Jackson. In the series, Wayans stars as “legendary talk radio host and happily divorced ‘Poppa’ who has his point of view challenged at work when a new female co-host (Atkins) is hired, and at home where he finds himself still parenting his adult son (Wayans Jr.), a brilliant dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband.” Dean Lorey and the Wayans executive produce.
