UK faces '18 inches' of snow with 'foot and a half' being dumped

18 inches of snow on the way for UK as the Met Office forecasts a -2C temperature plunge, With mid-November looming, WX Charts maps and charts - which use Met Desk data - show that blizzards are set to hit on Saturday November 23.

The maps show areas in the North West of England seeing 3cm of flurries with England not spared from the white stuff, as maps indicate swathes of the south could also be struck, including Home Counties, and the capital city Greater London.

Scottish Highlands are also set to take a brunt of the white stuff. The UK could even be set to wake up to as much as a foot and a half when the weather turns in just a matter of days, according to forecasters and meteorologists from the agency.

In the short-term, the Met Office forecast for Thursday (November 14) explains: "Cloudy with hill fog and patchy drizzle across many northern areas, where increasingly breezy. Clear spells eastern Scotland, central and southern England and Wales, with patchy fog and frost."

The outlook for Friday (November 15) has also been published and goes on to predict: "Mostly dry with sunshine across central and southern England, south Wales and eastern Scotland. Cloudier elsewhere with hill fog and drizzle. Heavier rain in far northwest later. Windy in north."

The outlook for Saturday (November 16) into next week and lasting to Monday (November 18) adds: "Rain moving south across England and Wales Saturday. Brighter, colder with blustery showers elsewhere. Wind, rain and hill snow Sunday.

"Widely colder with sunshine and showers, some wintry, on Monday." And the BBC Weather team says today will see any early low cloud, fog and mist soon lift to leave a dry day with a mix of variable clouds and sunny spells for most.
