SAC denies military presence during fisherman incident near border

The Information Team of the State Administration Council (SAC) denied the presence of Myanmar naval vessels near the border on November 27, when a Bangladeshi fisherman was reportedly injured by Myanmar Naval’s fire.

According to the SAC, the only Myanmar Navy warship in the area had returned from Sittwe at 1:45 pm on November 27 and was anchored approximately 5 miles southwest of Myint Lut village, at coordinates 20°34.1’N and 92°26.7’E.

The incident, which occurred near St. Martin's Island in Cox’s Bazar, was initially reported by Bangladeshimedia http://www.Dhakatribune.com/Bangladesh/nation/366945/Bangladeshi-fisherm..  However, Myanmar claims the situation could have been addressed through communication between the two countries' border guards and cautioned against media attempts to disrupt friendly bilateral relations. The Myanmar government emphasized its commitment to maintaining and protecting ties with Bangladesh.
