Thai authorities have arrested 11 Myanmar nationals traveling illegally aboard a motorized boat en route from Sangkhlaburi to Thong Pha Phum in Thailand’s Kanchanaburi Province, according to reports from the Thai side.

The incident occurred in the early hours of December 14, when Thai security personnel at a checkpoint within Vajiralongkorn Dam observed a suspicious motorboat and signaled it to stop for inspection.

However, the boat sped away, prompting authorities to intercept it at the Thong Pha Phum jetty.

The boat was piloted by two Thai men, who were detained and questioned.

Authorities revealed that the 11 passengers on board were Myanmar nationals who had entered Thailand illegally. It was reported that the boat operators charged each passenger 700 Thai Baht for transportation.

Further investigation revealed that some of the detained individuals had paid brokers between 10,000 and 13,000 Thai Baht to secure passage into Thailand for employment purposes.

Others intended to continue their journey to Malaysia, where they were reportedly required to pay brokers up to 5,500 Singapore dollars upon reaching their destination.
