A 29-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his father near Balbriggan on Thursday night.

Scott George was found dead by emergency services at a house on Tobersool Lane in north county Dublin.

His son Dáire McCormack-George, of Cabra Road, Phibsboro in Dublin, was brought before Dublin District Court this morning charged with his murder.

Garda Ultan McElroy of Balbriggan Garda Station gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.

Garda McElroy said Mr McCormack-George was charged with murder around 11.30pm last night.

The court heard that Mr McCormack-George, who is a trainee solicitor, made no reply to the charge.

Defence Solicitor Danny Nolan said Mr McCormack-George had been diagnosed with a mental health issue and he requested a psychological evaluation for his client.

He said Mr McCormack-George had not received his medication in a couple of days and was anxious to receive this.

Judge William Aylmer granted a psychiatric assessment to Mr McCormack-George and any treatment that may be required while he is in custody.

He also granted Mr McCormack-George legal aid.

Judge Aylmer remanded Mr McCormack-George in custody to Cloverhill Prison to appear in court again via video link on Friday 20 December.
