Child Benefit is still being left unclaimed by many families across the UK

New Labour Party government ministers face being blasted over £300 Winter Fuel Payment cuts in the wake of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) shake up.

Child Benefit is a tax-free payment that is available to parents who are responsible for raising a child under the age of 16 (or 20 if they stay in education or training).

The DWP has confirmed that 760,000 households are set to miss out on the Winter Fuel Payment this year, despite qualifying for help with their heating costs

As part of two separate the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) schemes, UK households face Winter Fuel Payments totalling up to £300, as well as the Warm Home Discount, which is £150.

Haringey Council is awarding the cash to pensioners in the borough receiving council tax support or housing benefit but not Pension Credit, as these residents will get the Winter Fuel Payment.

The DWP and Labour have been urged to "stop" the axe as 100,000 pensioners are set to lose energy bill support.
